I don't know how excited exactly PS3 owners are to hear that every once in a while, Sony Online Entertainment makes a title or two (worth mentioning) available for download via the console's Internet service, the PlayStation Network, but here it goes: SOE has recently announced Rampart, a Midway arcade classic, already available on PSN as a downloadable title. Apparently, it was there since June 15, but it's only today that an official press release talks about it.

The game's description, as found in the official press release, goes a little something like this: "Man your cannons and prepare to battle it out in Rampart. Players can defeat enemy ships while preventing their opponent from damaging castle walls. In this classic Midway arcade title, strategy is the key to victory as players prepare for battle, build and repair their territories and fire away at enemies."

Basically, in this game players are in control of a set of castles, which they must defend, by alternately shooting at attacking ships (or other players), and repairing any damage done to the castles within a time limit. Surrounding the castle is a wall, made up of small blocks, completely surrounding a region of the board. This area is considered the player's territory, possibly containing one or more castles and any number of cannons. The maintenance of this territory is the primary focus of the game.

Main features in Rampart:

A Unique Strategic Warfare Experience - Brains and brawn will beat them all as players combine rapid cannon firing along with careful castle reconstruction on the road to victory. Up to Six Levels To Conquer - Challenge the computer in up to six levels and combat against three versions of enemy ships. Multiplayer Action - Challenge up to three other players online. Players can destroy their walls in addition to tracking individual scores on the leader boards.

So, keep in mind, Rampart is yours for the taken if you live in Europe, the Middle East or Australia, via PSN, for 2,99? (for an introductory period). Have fun!
