Leading provider of wireless broadband solutions Novatel Wireless announced on October 7 the launch of a new innovative USB mobile broadband product, the Ovation MC998D HSPA+. The new industry-leading product comes to the market with support for the 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz frequency bands, the company states, adding that it is also capable of delivering connectivity in almost any location, this way enabling users to check their email, download rich multimedia content or stay connected to family and friends whenever they want to.

According to Novatel Wireless, the new Ovation MC998D comes with the capability to deliver great speeds, while sporting a compact form factor design, as well as “multiple input multiple output” (MIMO) and a series of diverse antenna technologies so that the data throughput is maximized. Novatel Wireless’ MobiLink 3 auto install connection manager is also present with this device, as is a MicroSDHC memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space, not to mention the backward compatibility with existing HSPA technologies.

“The addition of the Ovation MC998D to our previously announced family of HSPA+ products underscores our commitment to ensuring our customers’ needs are met on schedule as they upgrade to the latest technologies available,” said Rob Hadley, CMO of Novatel Wireless. “Our complete HSPA+ product line represents our efforts to continuously innovate to provide the fastest and most reliable wireless data devices for our customers and their customers.”

As many of you might already know, HSPA+ represents the next step in the evolution of HSPA (high-speed packet access). Compared with current 3G networks, the technology can deliver impressive data transfer speeds, which can top 21.6Mbps on the downlink, and can reach 5.76Mbps on the uplink. Moreover, speeds of up to 28.8Mbps on the downlink can be achieved through future firmware releases. “The MC998D design delivers significant performance enhancements over previous broadband technologies,” Novatel Wireless also notes.
