Owners of Nintendo Wii consoles aren't using the devices all that much, at least according to a new survey released in the UK.

According to Myvouchercodes, the website that commissioned the survey, it seems that Wii owners have forgotten about their console and aren't using it like they did when it first came out.

Out of 1,070 Wii owners who participated in the survey, 48 percent said that they hadn't used their console in the last six months or more.

23 percent said that they hadn't used it in the last month, while 12% didn't use it in the last week.

The motivations of those who hadn't used the console ranged from not enough time (41 percent), the novelty factor that wore off (29 percent) or even the purchase of new technologies like Microsoft's Kinect or Sony's PlayStation Move.

According to Mark Pearson, the chairman of the survey website, these results really show that the novelty factor of the Wii has really worn off, making it obsolete in the eyes of existing owners.

"The Wii really was a novelty when it first came out, but following the release of new motion controlled gaming platforms it appears that people have lost enthusiasm for the console. Wii's are a great choice, particularly for families who want to keep all ages entertained; but, inevitably, new platforms start to take over, as motion-controlled technology develops and improves across the board."

Both Sony and Microsoft criticized the Wii in recent times by saying that while their own consoles, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, respectively, are being actively used by serious gamers in their living rooms, the Wii is just gathering dust in a closet.

According to this survey, the companies are pretty much right on with their remarks.

What say you, Wii owners? Is your console not seeing as much play time like in the early days or are you still actively using it?
