Canadian mobile phone users have now yet another mobile phone available for them on the local market, namely the Nexus S by Samsung, which was put on sale since yesterday at Best Buy.

The new device, which was launched a few months ago as the very first mobile phone to run under the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, is available only for in-store purchase, although it is listed on the retailer's website.

Best Buy offers the new handset with contract agreements on TELUS and Koodo Mobile, priced at $174.99 and $274.99, respectively, on three year terms.

The smartphone was launched on the local market on the airwaves of various wireless carriers in the country, and should make it to the offerings of more operators soon.

Nexus S by Samsung is the second Google phone in the world, following the launch of Nexus One by HTC in January 2010.

The new smartphone packs top-of-the-line technology inside, meant to offer an enhanced experience to all users, which was complemented by the new operating system flavor.

The specifications list of the new device would include a fast 1GHz application processor, along with NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, or 16GB of internal memory.

Moreover, it comes with a large 4-inch touchscreen display with a curved design, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and a 3.0MP front-facing camera for video calling.

The phone's specs also include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot, full HTML browser with support for Adobe Flash 10.1, and enhanced support for multimedia playback.

“The Samsung Nexus S offers incredible features inside a sleek, slim and stylish package,” Best Buy notes on its website.

“The gorgeous 4" touchscreen display is the perfect spot to surf the web via Wi-Fi, play games with powerful 3D graphics, view photos and videos you captured with the 5MP camera, and access all of your Android apps with just a touch.”

The new smartphone can be seen at Best Buy here, for both TELUS and Koodo Mobile, but it can be purchased only through the retailer's stores.
