Nexus S 4G, Sprint's version of Google's second Nexus device out there, is expected to taste a software update in a matter of days, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest. Apparently, the wireless carrier and Google are working on getting the GRJ90 software update ready for deployment on Nexus S 4G, a leaked document shows.

The new update should start rolling-out on Nexus S 4G handsets starting with July 11th, and is expected to be pushed to all users before July 15th.

The new software for Nexus S 4G is only a minor upgrade, but it still arrives with a wide range of enhancements into the mix.

Reportedly, the release notes for the new upgrade would include: - Enables NFC Secure Element - 4G Settings Widget - TTY Support - NI Push Support (PRL and Device Configuration) -- Improved WiFi connectivity, speakerphone audio quality, 4G throughput and signal acquisition - Tuned signal strength indicators.

As stated above, Sprint seems determined to start the upgrade on Monday, July 11th, and should be delivered to all users in a four days period.

Lately, Sprint has made similar moves with other Android-based devices on its airwaves, pushing out updates to all owners of a specific device in only a few days after starting the roll-out.

Nexus S 4G, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread-powered mobile phone that Google and Samsung unveiled to the world in December last year, will share a similar fate.

However, the new GRJ90 firmware for the handset is only a minor software upgrade and does not bring into the mix a new flavor of Android, though a future update might deliver that as well.

Google is expected to launch the next version of its mobile operating system (dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich) before the end of the ongoing year, and Nexus S should be among the first existing handsets to receive an upgrade to it.
