Now that the USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) interface is closer and closer to becoming mainstream, we're seeing a large number of accessories that make use of it being rolled out onto the market, the latest we've come across being the USB 3.0 External Blu-ray writer drive from Vinpower Digital. Initially showcased back at CES 2011, the new USB 3.0 peripheral from Vinpower comes packed with an LG Blu-ray writer unit, packed within a proprietary enclosure (an interesting solution, albeit not perfect), and offers up to 12X BD-R & 16x DVD±R write speed for specific models.

In other words, due to the improved data throughput enabled by SuperSpeed (USB 3.0) technology, this thing is capable of writing up to 50GB of data or up to four hours of high-definition video on a write-once BD-R disc at speeds up 12x.

Moreover, the built-in LightScribe Technology lets users burn any image or text directly onto the surface of LightScribe-compatible CDs or DVDs.

“This multi-purpose drive is perfect for the modern family of the 21st century, explains Calvin Chang, C.E.O of Vinpower Digital, adding that “most households have multiple computers, some as many as 1 computer per family member. At the same time, most computers these days do not come with a Blu-ray writer or in the case of the many new laptops and tablets, no optical drive at all.”

“The USB 3.0 External Blu-ray writer drive from Vinpower Digital allows the entire family the opportunity to burn, view and share content stored on optical discs like CD’s, DVD’s, or Blu-ray discs. Best of all, because it’s got the USB 3.0 connection, each family member can use it at their own leisure on their own computer,” Mr. Chang concludes.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to come up with pricing and availability details for Vinpower Digital's USB 3.0 Blu-ray writer, but we'll try to come across these important pieces of information as soon as possible.
