The Altek T8680 is a new cameraphone just spotted in the wild, yet it comes with some features that won't make it easily forgettable. The main characteristic of the new mobile phone is a 12-megapixel photo snapper that also sports 3x optical zoom capabilities. Of course, this is not a usual cameraphone, and the company even calls it a digital camera that includes GSM phone function.

When the camera lens is extended, the new Altek T8680 does not resemble a phone that much. Even so, it does feature the capabilities of a GMS handset and sports a separate dedicated imaging processor inside, making its camera a more professional accessory. Unfortunately, the device does not have 3G connectivity at the moment, but it does come to the market with tri-band (900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/EDGE support.

According to GSM Arena, the phone allows users to set the ISO from 80 to 3200, while the handset's software enables additional features like face and smile detection, different shooting modes, and touch focus. Other specs of the device include a xenon flash and video recording capabilities at a VGA resolution.

The specification list of the new cameraphone also shows a 3-inch WQVGA TFT touchscreen display, along with Bluetooth with A2DP, USB connectivity, TV out, as well as PictBridge and DPOF. In addition, it also comes with FM radio capabilities, along with an accelerometer and with a proprietary operating system that provides support for J2ME.

The new Altek T8680 measures 113.5 x 52 x 16.6 mm and weighs 135 grams, packing a 1020 mAh Li-Ion battery that can provide up to 4 hours of talk time or up to 350 hours of standby time. The device is expected to become available for purchase by the end of August at a price of 3000 yuan (about 308 Euros). For the time being it will only come to the Chinese market.
