The Monster Hunter series from Capcom has been wildly successful over the years, managing to generate a few blockbuster releases on the PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony, but the game has also managed to move and do well on platforms like the Nintendo Wii, after initially being put out on the PlayStation 2.

And it seems that the developers behind the game are now thinking of making a bigger move, taking Monster Hunter to the new Nintendo 3DS handheld, which is set to launch in Japan on February 26 of this year and about one month later in Europe and North America.

Ryozo Tsujimoto, who is a producer working on Monster Hunter, has talked to Gemaga magazine about the long-running series and has stated that, “The 3DS is releasing, too, so I think the right time to switch to new hardware is coming as well.”

The latest release in the series has been Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which has been launched on the Japanese market and has managed good sales, and the publisher has promised that it will also localize the game for Western audiences.

The Nintendo 3DS is set to be the first handheld gaming device that will allow players to experience full three-dimensional gaming experiences without the use of any specialized glasses, and its developer hopes that the innovation will be significant enough to persuade those who have bought a DS device to switch to the new generation and fend off the mobile challenge of Apple made devices.

The impact of Monster Hunter on the PlayStation Portable has been significant because of the limited appeal the platform has had for other developers and it remains to be seen whether the franchise will have the same appeal on the Nintendo 3DS, where publishers like Nintendo, Konami and Electronic Arts are preparing to deliver some pretty big titles.
