After the huge success of last weekend's Operation Goliath, BioWare has now announced that the multiplayer mode in its recent Mass Effect 3 game is going to offer 25% more XP this weekend, as part of the new Operation Fortress.

Mass Effect 3, for the first time in the series, features a multiplayer mode and, while some people were reticent at first, it turned out a big success, with lots of people opting to try it out alongside the already stunning single-player campaign.

In order to keep players interested in the online experience, BioWare is currently running special operations each weekend.

Last week we saw Operation Goliath, which was a huge success, and now the studio has deployed Operation Fortress.

Unlike the previous challenge, where players needed to complete matches against Reapers on Silver or Gold difficulties, this operation just offers 25% more XP to all matches, no matter the map, difficulty or enemies encountered.

"Last weekend the community joined together to push back the reapers in Operation Goliath. With over 3 million brutes killed, their numbers have been decimated. Expect to encounter far fewer this weekend," BioWare revealed, highlighting that matches against Reapers may be much easier this wekend.

"As a reward for that outstanding performance, join your friends online between 5 PM PST Friday, March 23 and 5 AM PST Monday, March 26, to reap the rewards of last weekend’s successful offensive with a 25% XP bonus."

The announcement also confirms that a new "elite" operation will be held next weekend, so it's probably a good idea to get your favorite characters to level 20, if you haven't already, and polish your skills for the next big Operation.

Expect to hear some more details about the next challenge at the end of next week. Until then, enjoy the extra experience points that are now available on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
