Video game developer BioWare has launched the first N7 Challenge Weekend, a series of events where the player community will be asked to take on special tasks via multiplayer, with Operation Goliath inviting all those interested to take part on a virtual galaxy-wide effort to take out at least one million Brutes, the Krogan-inspired shock troops of the Reapers.

The weekend special event is running until 5 AM Pacific Standard Time on Monday, March 18 and all those playing Mass Effect 3 on the PC and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft can take part.

BioWare says that there are some infrastructure problems which make it impossible to offer the same event on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and that they might be taken care of in time for the next N7 Weekend.

The official description from BioWare reads, “Citadel Allied Command is mounting a galaxy-wide operation to cripple the Reapers’ shock troops: the turian-krogan hybrids known as ‘brutes’.

“To flush out Reaper ground forces, N7 teams are deploying to engage the enemy in key theaters. Heavy reinforcements are expected anywhere fighting begins.”

In order to contribute to the war effort, squads need to play on the Silver or a higher difficulty and extract from any map while fighting Reaper forces.

Each squad will get a Commendation Pack and if the global goal is met all players involved will get access to a Victory Pack that can be unlocked during the following week in the official store.

The Commendation Packs include one of N7 Crusader Shotgun, N7 Eagle Pistol, N7 Hurricane SMG, and N7 Valiant Sniper Rifle, weapons that cannot be obtained via normal multiplayer unlocks.

BioWare says that based on the success of this first N7 Weekend it plans to create and launch more events that will require the efforts of the entire players base.
