Certain upcoming events may have prompted companies to release or at least unveil new and upcoming products, but it looks like Silicon Power did not need this incentive when it put together its new flash drives.

Though its composition may be shifting somewhat, the storage market is just as active as ever, and this goes for both internal and external solutions.

The way Verbatim announced not just hard disk drives., but also solid state drives, in anticipation of its presence at IFA 2011 is just one proof to support this.

Now coming to cover the ultraportable side of things, Silicon Power took the short and silent route, simply adding a new product page to its website.

Said product page depicts a new, very small flash drive unit, one that bears the name of Marvel M60 and can feature a storage capacity of either 32 GB or 64 GB.

The design involves a retractable USB connector and an electroplated metallic case (73 x 22 x 9 mm), plus a LED indicator light.

Of course, the main point of interest is, as is common for this sort of device, the connectivity technology standard.

Sure enough, Silicon Power went all the way and made sure the Marvel M60 supports the newest iteration of the Universal Serial Bus, USB 3.0 as it were.

This SuperSpeed technology will let reading and writing tasks be accomplished at 100 MB/s and 70 MB/s, respectively.

Meanwhile, should only USB 2.0 ports be available on a system, data rates will be limited to 30 MB/s and 20 MB/s.

Finally, the company threw in backup software and made it possible to lock the PC by password, with plugging the pen drive being required to reestablish access.

Unfortunately, Silicon Power did not specifically mention the prices of the 32 GB or 64 GB newcomers.
