She is the iconic blonde pinup, the woman whose name has come to be synonymous with old-school glamour and elegance. To this day, Marilyn Monroe remains the ultimate blonde, a new poll reveals.

Though almost half a century has passed since her untimely death, Marilyn remains the women many men dream and other women aspire to resemble, from her dress style to her hairdo.

Out of many blonde celebrities, both current and of yore, she remains the number one blonde, as a new poll by Clairol Nice ‘n Easy and cited by NewsLite informs. The people have spoken.

“Marilyn Monroe has been named the greatest blonde of all time after beating off competition from Cameron Diaz and Scarlett Johansson,” the publication says.

“The ‘Some Like It Hot’ star – who died in 1962 – pipped other fair-haired women to take top slot judged be a poll of 3,000 people,” NewsLite informs.

Competiton was very tight, but Marilyn still came out as the winner. Actress Grace Kelly landed on the second spot, while another pinup, the French Brigitte Bardot came in third.

Leggy and always smiling Cameron Diaz was the highest ranking current star, coming in at number 4. Holly Willoughby, Joanna Lumley, Scarlett Johansson, Stevie Nicks, Olivia Newton-John and Debbie Harry rounded up the top 10.

The poll is irrefutable proof that blonde will never go out of style, just like it shows that some styles (such as Marilyn’s short, curly ‘do) will always remain symbols of exquisite taste and elegance.

“Marilyn Monroe has always been known for her iconic blonde hair. But it’s amazing to think that even now, almost half a century after her death, she has still beaten modern blondes to the top spot,” a spokesperson for Clairol Nice ‘n Easy says about the results.

“Her hair is synonymous with 1950s glamour but it has stood the test of time against hair styles and colors which have come and gone over the years,” the same spokesperson explains.
