Women, it has been argued, have very unique ways of dealing with stressful situations. One of them, and the most popular perhaps, is doing things for themselves that make them feel more beautiful and, thus, bring them into a better mood. Renowned British hairstylist Andrew Barton says that, right now, women have found the perfect way of fighting the effects of the recession - going blonde.

That blondes have more fun has been proven on countless occasions, as also has been the fact that, when it comes down to choosing, men prefer blonde hair on a woman before any other color. This in mind, it comes as no surprise that Barton says that more and more women have been crossing his threshold to get golden locks for an instant mood booster.

“I don’t believe it is purely a coincidence that there’s been a huge sales rise in blonde hair products during these tough financial times.” Barton tells the British publication Daily Mail. “Many of my female clients say they feel more confident, more youthful and more attractive when they go blonde and they get more attention. With only 10 per cent of UK women having naturally blonde hair, choosing to be blonde must be more than about how you look.” he further explains.

As it happens, Barton is speaking the truth, as a recent survey undertaken in the UK also revealed. 1,200 respondents said that they associated blonde hair with an extrovert, confident person, while 90 percent of the male respondents expressed their belief that blonde women have more fun, as opposed to their differently dyed counterparts. This, one could say, would be more than enough to settle the age-old debate over the type of woman that men prefer, if only it weren’t also a question of taste.

The aforementioned survey, though, also revealed other things about society’s perspective on blonde women. Among the most common attributes used in relation to blondes is that they are extrovert, good-looking, have a childlike innocence about them, make better girlfriends, kiss on a first date, are more fun on a night out, more popular, spontaneous and wealthy, but also dumber than women who are either red-heads or brunettes.
