South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is the latest handset vendor to announce plans to work with the MeeGo operating system.

Nokia might have abandoned plans to come to the market with a new mobile phone that would run under the MeeGo platform, but it seems that LG hasn't as of yet.

The company is reportedly set to bring to the spotlight prototype devices that would run under the said operating system, though it might not actually have the intention to bring them to shelves.

Apparently, the company is working on both smartphone and tablet PCs that would be running under the platform, and the MeeGo conference that would take place in San Francisco next month it the place where it would unveil them to the world.

The company has only prototype devices to show to the world for the time being, but this is more than nothing, and comes as good news.

There are not too many details available on these devices for the time being, but the event is set to take place between May 23 - 25, and more info on them might emerge before that.

For the time being, all the available info comes from a session announcement (via MeeGo Experts) that touts the upcoming showcasing of devices from LG that would run under MeeGo 1.2.

Moreover, the session would include discussion on the manner in which LG would contribute to the future of the MeeGo platform. Multiple LG MeeGo devices would be on the floor at the conference.

The session's abstract reads: “To present how LGE’s works on MeeGo IVI/Tablet/Smart Phone and how/what LGE will contribute for the future of MeeGo platform. Also some proposal on SW architecture will be presented. This session will include demonstration of prototype devices.”

LG has joined MeeGo only recently, but it seems that the company is committed to help the community as much as it can, and that it moved quite fast in this direction. Keep an eye on this space for more.
