South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics announced recently that it's LG Cookie (LG KP500) touchscreen handset managed to top the 10 million units sold mark. The device has been launched on the market in November 2008, and it reached the 5 million units sold mark about five months ago. Moreover, LG Cookie is the fifth handset from the company that achieves this milestone, following devices like LG Chocolate, LG Shine, LG KP100 and LG KG270.

“We are pleased that the LG Cookie was able to reach the benchmark of 10-million shipments in a short period of time,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The sales record adds credence to our philosophy of studying consumer demands and offering a full touchphone that balances premium features with sleek design. LG will continue to shape the future by delivering products and technologies to satisfy the tastes and expectations of our consumers.”

According to the handset vendor, the LG Cookie proved itself very popular for a wide range of consumers since its launch on the market, as more than 5 million units have been sold in Europe alone, two million in Latin America and other two million in Asia. The phone maker also notes that the selling rate of Cookie has been at around one million units per month each month during the ongoing year, and that it expects for demand to increase during the holiday season.

Regional customization is said to be one of the main factors behind Cookie's success on the global market. According to LG, the variant of the handset that reached the Middle East market came with “the Koran and a compass to indicate the direction of Mecca,” and there is also a special version available in the Czech Republic, with “an ice-hockey game and the logo of Sparta Prague, a popular club,” due to the fact that ice hockey is a national sport there.

The Cookie is expected to see high demand in the near future too, and to register steady sales, just as its predecessors LG Chocolate and LG Shine did. Moreover, the company also plans the release of an LG Cookie successor, sometime in early 2010.
