Mobile phone carrier US Cellular is expected to bring to the market in the United States a new Android-based device in the near future, namely the LG Genesis, which should join other appealing handsets in the offering, such as the HTC Merge. Initially expected to become available for purchase on the airwaves of Verizon, the handset it now listed on LG's website as being en-route to US Cellular, but no specific info on its availability emerged for the time being.

The handset comes with dual-touchscreen displays, including a 3.5-inch external panel, and a 3.2-inch internal one, meant to offer a great experience to users. It also includes a full physical QWERTY keyboard.

The LG Genesis would run under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, and sports the model number of US760 (unlike the Verizon flavor, which was VS761)

It should also include a fast 1GHz application processor inside, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, and Wi-Fi hotspot features, so that users can share a 3G connection with more handsets.

“The Android 2.2 LG Genesis is all about speed, whether you’re running apps, typing Tweets on Twitter, or sharing content,” LG notes on its website.

“Customize five or seven home screens to access shortcuts in a flash. Texts, emails, and IMs roll out QWERTY quick on virtual or real keys.

“Share music and photos faster without the need for cords via DLNA sharing. Genesis isn’t selfish either - it acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices, creating an impromptu network.”

The specs list of this device would also include a microSD memory card slot, along with DLNA connectivity, and support for a wide range of applications and mobile services, including Google Talk, Gmail, Google Voice Actions, and Google Maps Navigation.

When made available at US Cellular, the smartphone is expected to feature a price tag of $249.99 on contract, which would make it one of the most expensive devices at the wireless carrier.
