HTC Merge, the long rumored Android-based mobile phone to make its way to Verizon's airwaves in the United States, is expected to hit the shelves as US Cellular before the month of May is over, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest. If things are so, Verizon would be only the third wireless services provider in the United States to add the said device on its airwaves, since the Merge is already available for purchase via Alltel Wireless.

A recently leaked internal document from US Cellular, which emerged over at Android Central, suggests that it would indeed have the smartphone on its network on May 31st.

Since nothing is known precisely on the availability of this device at Big Red, US Cellular might indeed be the second operator to have it in stores.

When put for sale on May 31st, the mobile phone would sport a price tag of $249.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement, rumor has it.

However, there is a $100 mail in rebate included in this cost, which means that uses would be able to purchase is for only $149.99 after the MIR is returned to them.

The specifications list of the HTC Merge includes an 800MHz application processor, which should offer enough row power for its users.

Moreover, the handset comes with a 3.8-inch touchscreen display, as well as with a side sliding QWERTY keyboard.

With a high-quality photo snapper on the back, and a microSD memory card for expanding the available storage space, the Merge would easily prove a great option for many users.

The CDMA version of the HTC Desire Z runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, and offers support for a wide range of services from the Internet giant, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.

Nothing was confirmed for the time being on the release of HTC Merge at US Cellular, so stay tuned to learn more on the matter.
