Kylie Minogue gives most honest interview to date, opens up about cancer battle

Now in the middle of a huge world tour, which she describes as a celebration of life, Australian singer Kylie Minogue took the time out to speak with Molly Meldrum for Sunday Night. It’s the most personal interview she’s given to date.

Molly is a good friend of Kylie’s and, even though the interview was for the Australian show Sunday Night, he was at liberty to ask all the questions fans have been dying to have answered.

Which is precisely what he did, as the video below will confirm.

The first topic up for discussion was Kylie’s much mediated battle with breast cancer and how she’s passed the 5-year mark since treatment, which means she’s been given the all-clear.

This is the point in the interview in which the singer, usually so cheerful and upbeat, breaks down in tears and has to leave the room.

Nevertheless, she returns immediately and explains that, even if so many years have passed since she was diagnosed with the disease, the memories are still too much at times.

“You might have seen the bravery. I don’t think the public saw... well, I stayed indoors. My family got me through really rotten, dark moments,” the pop star reveals.

She also recalled one time when she was visiting a cancer hospital and talking to children there, when parents reached out to her, asking her, for a change, how she was doing, how she was coping – which is the exact moment she’s overwhelmed with emotion and has to leave the room.

“The reason that that gets me is, and the greatest part of my job and what I do is the humanity of it, and there’s certain moments where that really cuts through,” Kylie said when she returned from the bathroom, where she had wiped her eyes.

In the same interview, Kylie also talks about her 3-year romance with model Andres Velencoso and the possibility of getting married and having children.

She doesn’t rule out any of them, though she does say that she doesn’t believe motherhood is in the cards for her.
