The action focus would be smaller than under Platinum Games

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance might not be the game that series veterans expected to get in 2012 but the man who created the franchise and drove it to its current level of popularity seems to like what he has been seeing.

Speaking during an interview given to Ripten during the VGA red carpet walk, through a translator, Hideo Kojima stated, “As you will see in the trailer, Rising is going to be something completely different. They made something very different from what I do, and I like it.”

He added, “It’s a very speedy Metal Gear. I’m only the producer, I’m not working on the game design. I think that if I was working on the game design of that game the outcome wouldn’t be as speedy a game as they are making right now. It would be more like Bushido, the way of the samurai. Not ninja-action, but something that takes care more of the slow movements.”

A lot of fans were disappointed with the Metal Gear Rising trailer that was shown during the VGAs, which showed a very different game from what they expected, with a quick Raiden making short work of enemies using high speed sword attacks.

Initially Kojima Productions shown a Metal Gear Solid game that had some stealth elements and some action bits and a more muted color pallet.

It’s not clear why publisher Konami has decided to scrap the approach taken initially by Kojima and bring in developer Platinum Games, best known for Bayonetta and for MadWorld, to handle the actual development process.

Since the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance announcement was made Kojima has suggested that after Platinum Games delivers their video game he might be ready to make an official announcement about a true sequel called simply Metal Gear Solid 5.

Revengeance is expected to arrive on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 during 2012.
