Sony revival

The PlayStation 3 home console from Sony registered a significant increase in sales in Japan just as a big new release aimed at it Sengoku Basara 3 made to number one in the software charts. This as the hardware chart is still ruled by the PlayStation Portable handheld.

The PSP managed to sell 48,603 units in the seven day period, which is almost double the numbers it has posted during the previous week, when it achieved sales of 28,747. The PlayStation 3 is mounting a significant challenge over its sibling, with sales going from 19,420 to 45,224 in one week and further growth still a possibility. Third place in the hardware chart is taken up by the LL version of the Nintendo DSi handheld, which is popular because of its bigger screen and two cameras. The device sold 23,120 units which is a small decline over the previous week, when it sold 21,092.

The Nintendo Wii in fourth place in the chart with 20,038 home consoles moved to interested customers, also registering a decline over the previous week. The normal version of the DSi handheld sold 17,950 units, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft witnessed an increase to 6,929, beating the DS Lite and the PS2. The PSP GO is dead last in the hardware chart.

In the video game chart Sengoku Basara 3 from Capcom for the PlayStation 3 has reached 243,000 copies in its first week on shelves. Another new entry is in second spot, with Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 from SEGA for the PSP close to the top spot with sales of 241,000. Third spot went to Wii Party from Nintendo for the Wii, with sales of 83,000 units. Fourth spot in the software charts is occupied by Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbaride Card Battle Taisen from Bandai Namco for the DS with sales of 64,000 while the Nintendo Wii version of Sengoku Basara 3 closes up the top five reaching sales of 50,000.
