Almost one year ago, Jane Fonda was going into surgery for knee replacement, an intervention made necessary because of the many years she had invested in working out and building a fitness empire. The star is now back to the same work, having decided to help all those who want to be helped celebrate World Fitness Day, as People magazine reveals.

A similar attempt, though different in nature, came from beauty queen Tyra Banks, who instated the National Real Hair Day on September 8, a day when all women should feel free to celebrate natural beauty by having their extension, weaves and wigs taken out. This time, though, this is not just about a boost in self esteem, but also about improving the quality of life, for Fonda sets out to show the countless benefits of working out and how it can completely overhaul our life.

“The fitness guru – who inspired the nation to ‘feel the burn!’ in the ‘70s with her at-home workout videos – decided to host the event to promote ‘the fun and value of exercise,’ Fonda tells People. ‘It can be a determining factor in the quality of your life and it’s never too late to start.’ More than 3,000 participants will have the opportunity to sign-up for work-out sessions that range from aerobics with Richard Simmons to tae-bo with Billy Blanks. The event will also be available live online via ustream.tv,” People says of the event.

“Fonda calls the event ‘a nationwide call for fun and fitness’ for people of all ages. ‘I am 72 years old,’ she says. ‘I’ve had hip replacement and a recent knee replacement and I am interested in bringing boomers and seniors like me into the exercise world because I know it will enhance their lives.’ World Fitness Day will benefit the non-profit Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, which Fonda established in 1995,” the same publication further informs.

The first-ever World Fitness Day will be celebrated, as also noted above, on May 1, in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome. For those who won’t be able to be there, here is where they can watch the event live.
