Everyone is talking about a possible Zune phone or Google phone, but what about the Hummer phone? The first impression everyone will have is that Hummer, which is responsible for producing rugged vehicles with a unique design, doesn't really have anything to do with mobile phones. And there they are, aiming to prove that this is not true. Apparently, Hummer in partnership with ModeLabs (that is also currently partnering with TagHeuer for producing a mobile phone) is going to develop a line of mobile phones, accessories and on-device services under the Hummer brand name during this year.

"HUMMER is known globally for premium, rugged vehicles with iconic design and unparalleled off-road performance. HUMMERs are built for adventure, and thanks to their "Mobile On Demand TM" offer and a number of other rugged high performance products, ModeLabs Group will help respond to the outdoor adventurer's needs. "This Lifestyle product segmentation is developing rapidly and no one has demonstrated that rapid growth more than HUMMER who has quickly established themselves as one of the fastest-growing truck brands. ModeLabs Group intends to contribute to that continued growth as we look forward to a successful partnership with HUMMER," says Stephane Bohbot, ModeLabs Group CEO.

The line of Hummer Consumer Electronics will be designed to be durable and provide high performance, with a rugged design that is to suit the needs of today's consumers with active lifestyles.

Therefore, in a way, the Hummer mobile phones will be based on pretty much the same philosophy as their cars. The exclusive agreement allows ModeLabs to distribute the products in several continents including Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, North America and South America. Expect to see such a phone launched sometime in the second quarter of the year.
