Leading mobile phone maker HTC Corporation announced on Tuesday unaudited net profit of around T$8.64 billion (US$268 million) for the second quarter of the ongoing year, marking an increase of around 33 percent when compared to same time frame a year ago. Back in 2009, HTC posted an audited net profit of T$6.5 billion (US$202 million).

According to a recent article on Reuters, the company's sales during June reached T$23.86 billion. As for the entire three months period ended June 30, 2010, strong revenues helped the Taiwan-based mobile phone maker see its profits go up by 33 percent on a yearly basis.

HTC is the largest maker of smartphones running under Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system based on number of shipments. The phone maker's unaudited net profit of 8.64 billion New Taiwan dollars (US$268 million) for the second quarter of 2010 translates into profits of NT$11.77 (37 U.S. cents) a share, up from the NT$8.30 a share it registered the same quarter a year before.

IntoMobile reports that, according to Yuanta Securities analyst Bonnie Chang, HTC has all the chances to ship a number of more than 20 million mobile phones during the ongoing year, up from the 12 million units it moved during 2009. In April alone, HTC managed to sell more than 4.5 million devices, it seems.

The company has managed to become one of the leading providers of devices powered by Google's Android platform since the release of T-Mobile G1, through phones like Nexus One, HTC Desire, DROID Incredible, or HTC EVO 4G. For what it's worth, the Armada of Android-based handsets HTC has pushed on shelves since the beginning of the ongoing year might be seen as one of the main growth factors for the company.

Currently, HTC is not placed among the three leading smartphone makers in the world, a recent report from IDC shows. The Taiwanese maker trails handset vendors like Nokia, Research in Motion, Apple with its iPhone, and Motorola Inc.
