A new version of HTC Sync, the desktop application that Taiwan-based phone maker HTC Corporation made available for its Android-based devices, is now available for download with support for even more handsets than before.

We're referring here to HTC Sync 3.0.5481, made available for download at HTC today, which adds support for the latest handsets the company launched with Google's Android operating system on board, namely the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z.

According to the mobile phone maker, the main enhancements in the new application version, beside the obvious added support, include:

1. Support “Group” syncs in Contact 2. Extend Calendar Sync period to 1 year 3. Add “My favorite” item support for Contacts

“You can use HTC Sync to synchronize Outlook contacts and calendar or Outlook Express contacts and the bookmarks of web browser between your computer and your phone,” the company notes.

“It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and bring your photos, videos, documents, songs, and playlists to your phone,” HTC continues.

At the same time, the mobile phone maker announced that the 3.0.5481 update is “applicable for APAC & EU HTC Hero (Android 2.1) , HTC Desire HD, Desire Z, Legend, Desire, Wildfire & HTC Aria (APAC Only).”

The software solution can be downloaded and installed on any desktop PC that runs under Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

The application requires Intel Pentium III or higher processor, 1GB of RAM or higher, XGA (1024 x 768) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor, and 60 MB of available free hard disk space.

In order to connect the Android-based HTC mobile phone to a desktop computer on which HTC Sync was installed, one will need to use the USB cable that came with the device, and a USB 2.0 port on the computer.

Additional details on the downloading and installation of this application can be found on HTC's support website here.
