A new Android-based smartphone was made available for purchase on the Canadian market today, namely the HTC Desire Z, which was just put on sale at wireless carrier Bell. Starting today, the operator's customers can purchase the handset for only $129.95 upon the signing of a three-year contract agreement with Bell.

Bell users interested in the purchase of the new device will also have the possibility to get it with two and one year contract agreements, priced at $449.95 and $474.95, respectively. The no contract price tag for the new mobile phone was set at $499.95.

The HTC Desire Z is one of the latest smartphones that HTC has brought to the market with Google's Android operating system on board.

“The HTC Desire Z is a super fast Android smartphone on Canada's best network. Connect to friends faster and easier with the new Z-hinge slide-out keyboard and touch screen. Plus, stream live TV and radio at super fast download speeds to stay entertained wherever you are,” Bell states.

The specifications list of this device includes a 3.7-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 480 x 800 pixels resolution, complemented by a 5-megapixels photo snapper with flash, 2x digital zoom and HD video capture (720p).

The new smartphone also comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity on board, as well as with Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot capabilities (users can connect up to 8 Wi-Fi devices).

Running under the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the smartphone also sports HTC Sense 2.0, as well as Adobe Flash 10.1 for great Internet navigation.

The phone's internal memory goes up to 1.5 GB, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, with an 8GB card included in the package from the start.

“With download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps, the HTC Desire Z might just be the fastest smartphone yet,” the wireless carrier notes.
