Android 2.1, the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, has been released into the wild since the beginning of the year, when Nexus One brought it to T-Mobile's airwaves via Google's web store, and should soon arrive on more devices on the market, it seems. Among them, we can count the HTC Tattoo, which has been reportedly confirmed to be on its way to soon taste the new operating system.

We already knew that the Taiwan-based mobile phone maker was readying an Android 2.1 update for some of its existing devices, including the HTC Hero or the HTC Magic, and now it seems that Tattoo will also be blessed with the new software solution. However, no specific detail on when the update arrives for this handset were unveiled, though it appears that the company did confirm the work on the solution.

The French Android website Frandroid stated recently that, when contacted about a possible Android 2.1 update for the Tattoo, HTC said that the update was in the works, and that it should be ready for deployment soon. What soon actually means we're not sure, but, hopefully, it will arrive in early second quarter, though we'll still have to wait patiently for an official announcement to be made. Not to mention that the company still hasn't provided an exact release date for Android 2.1 for Hero and Magic either.

“Kindly note we understand that now that a phone running Android OS 2.1 is available that you are excited to get an update for your Tattoo. We are still working hard to building Sense for this new version but we expect to have the upgrade finished and ready to go soon. Please understand that it takes time to customize any Android version to ensure you have the intuitive experience Sense provides, and we hope you can be patient for just a little while longer,” HTC stated, according to the news site.

The HTC Tattoo, as most of you might already know, is the handset vendor's approach to the mass market. The device comes with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display that boasts a QVGA resolution and with the HTC Sense solution, includes a 528 MHz processor, and offers a great deal of customization options, all of which are available for a rather affordable price tag.
