Sony has sent word that God of War III, one of the most expected PlayStation 3 exclusive videogames arriving in 2010, has received a final release date for March 16. We knew that the game would be coming out at some point in spring since the 2009 edition of E3, but only now is the company committing to a clear date, which signals that the game discs are being prepared and they will be shipping to retailers at some point in late in February.

God of War III will see main character Kratos take on the mighty power of Olympus as he seeks to bring about the downfall of the gods that have caused him so much pain.

The visceral gameplay of the series will be returning, with decapitations and mutilation a common sight and with Kratos gaining a lot of new toys to kill people with. Huge Titans will be used by Kratos to get to Olympus and a lot of fighting will take place as the Spartan warrior aims to battle Zeus himself.

The game will be available in both a $59.99 standard edition and a $99.99 God of War III Ultimate Edition. In addition to the game and decorative Pandora's box packaging, players of the Ultimate Edition will receive an art book, as well as access to downloadable content and in-game bonuses. Gamers will also get a feature-length retrospective on the franchise, the trilogy soundtrack, and a selection of heavy metal tracks inspired by God of War.

Lastly, Sony also announced through the PlayStation Blog today that it would be cutting the price of the God of War Collection to $29.99. The collection includes the first two highly acclaimed God of War titles for the PlayStation 2, with re-mastered 720p high definition graphics and added trophy support. The package includes a playable demo for God of War III as well.
