Hollywood is making its presence felt quite severely in the gaming industry these days, as more and more movies have video game tie-ins ready for launch once the flicks hit the theaters and cinemas around the world.

But, every once in a while, movies that are cult classics or extremely popular get the video game treatment in honor of their legacy and in order to please the fans. Knowing that and considering the tough financial times, the titles are guaranteed to make a profit.

One such example is the upcoming Ghostbusters video game, which will be published by Atari in June, at the same time as the 25th anniversary of the original movie's theatrical release around the world. The fact that some of the movie's original actors like Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray or Ernie Hudson will appear also made a lot of fans anxious to see the title.

Now, a fresh tidbit of information has arrived from Atari, which has just announced that Dr. Peter Venkman, played by Bill Murray, will have a new love interest, namely Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn, played by none other than Alyssa Milano of Charmed or My Name Is Earl fame. She will be lending her voice and likeness to the character that was originally intended for Sigourney Weaver.

She will play a sassy archaeologist who is in charge of the “World of Gozer” exhibition at New York's National History Museum. A cataclysmic force is unleashed from the hall where the exhibition is held, so the Ghostbusters will need to find out just what happened and help the young Dr. Selwyn figure out how to contain the evil forces.

“Obviously, fans of the movie are going to miss Sigourney Weaver,” the young actress said. “I have so much respect for that character in the movie that I hope I do the position that she is in justice. I was just flattered to be asked to be part of 'Ghostbusters'.”

It seems that all the premises are met with this future game and hopefully we will get to see something that will truly fit the original movie's 25th anniversary. Look forward to it on June 16, 2008 in North America and June 19 in the rest of the world.
