In June last year, after Adam Lambert of American Idol came out on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, KISS co-founder and reality star Gene Simmons put in his two cents about whether Lambert had what it took to be a rock star. Also then, he said Adam might have made the biggest mistake of his life, one that would cost him his career, by coming out publicly.

Speaking with the Herald Sun, the “For Your Entertainment” singer lashed out at the rocker saying his words were like pot calling kettle black. Because of this, for telling him that he shouldn’t have come out because that would attract attention to his personal life, thus casting his music in a corner of shadow, Simmons is a hypocrite because he too generated media coverage for his love life, bragging about his many lovers in particular.

“But Lambert did slam Kiss star Gene Simmons (whom he performed with on American Idol) as obnoxious and a giant hypocrite when the rock star said the Idol should shut up about his preferences. ‘For someone to criticize me […] and say, America doesn’t care about what you do behind closed doors and it’s going to kill your career, well that’s funny because all he talks about is how many women he’s slept with,’ Lambert said,” the Herald Sun writes after sitting down with the glam rock star for an interview.

As we also reported at the time, Simmons stepped forward in June last year to tell the media that, while immensely talented, Lambert was drawing the wrong kind of attention onto himself by speaking about his personal life. In this light, the Rolling Stone cover was a very bad decision because it would certainly turn out to put an end to his career, one that could have been extremely successful if he had just kept his mouth shut, Simmons stated.

“Well you know he’s a very talented kid. He should have won American Idol as far as I am concerned. I will tell you that he deserves to be in a rock band that serves his particular style. He really doesn’t have a rock-n-roll voice. He’s more like Queen. He’d be great on Broadway. He’s a great belter and all that stuff. But unfortunately, he’s let the other story take center stage. That’s going to be a career killer. I think it’s going to be over before it’s begun and it’s unfortunate because the kid’s got the pipes,” the KISS rocker said back then.
