South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics announced recently the release of two new mobile phones meant to offer users the possibility to always stay connected with their online communities, no matter where they are, the LG GW520 and LG GT505. The new devices feature not only push updates from social networking sites, but also support for both business and personal email.

The two handsets come to the market as followers of the LG KS360 messaging device, and they include more messaging functions and ease of use. According to the company, the new LG GW520 and LG GT505 are the first LG phones that include push social networking updates, enabling users to receive alerts from multiple social networking sites as soon as new posts are published online. In addition, both handsets support push email for personal accounts, while also including Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for business customers.

“Mobile communications have been about more than just voice based calls for a long time, but consumers are now demanding more than just SMS and IM services. They want the kind of messaging and social networking features previously the preserve of high end handsets on a wide range of models, and that is what LG is offering. We recognise the demand for mobile devices that enable quick and easy interaction with social network sites as a growing market. LG aspires to be at the forefront of this with the launch of these great mobile phones.” said Jeremy Newing, head of marketing, LG Mobile UK.

The specification list of the new LG GW520 includes a 2.8-inch full touchscreen display, a full slide-out QWERTY keypad, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, 3G enabled, WAP 2.0 browser, a 3-megapixel photo snapper, and email, SMS and instant messaging capabilities. In addition, the phone comes with LG's LiveSquare feature, allowing users to see their close friends as animated characters on the homescreen. The device will become available in various markets in June 2009.

The new LG GT505 comes with easy navigation features, while also sporting the preloaded 30-day free trial of WisePilotfor LG, a turn-by-turn navigation solution meant to offer voice instructions and 2D and 3D mapping. The handset also includes a 3-inch full touchscreen display, GPS, Push email via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, Wi-Fi, HSDPA 3.6Mbps, 2G capabilities, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper. The new LG GT505, says the maker, will become available with Orange starting this month.
