The Grand Theft Auto series has been one of the most definitive franchises that shaped the development of other sandbox titles that came after it. Ever since the first 3D game, GTA III, people have been engaged in intricate stories and entertained with some very hilarious moments of rampage through detailed cities.

Now, as the latest iteration in the series, Grand Theft Auto IV, has broken records and won many game-of-the-year awards, the first DLC content episode made for the Xbox 360 version, The Lost and Damned, has followed in its footsteps, as Rockstar and Microsoft have announced that it has become one of the most successful download-only titles ever to be featured on the console.

The DLC, which was available to those who paid 1600 MS Points and already owned the original version of Grand Theft Auto IV, has “eclipsed first-day revenue for all previous downloadable content on Xbox Live” and is the “highest reviewed downloadable content ever,” according to Rockstar.

“The success of ‘Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned’ redefines what consumers expect from Game Add-ons,” said Marc Whitten, general manager of Xbox Live. “Content like this is extending the lives of our favorite games and fundamentally changing the way we play.”

The Lost and Damned places players in the shoes of Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City's The Lost biker gang, and offers them a variety of new missions and adventures through the streets of the virtual city. Along with the new adventures, new music and multiplayer modes have also been included, in order to attract even more people.

With the first DLC episode out the door, it seems that Rockstar will focus on making the second episode, but don't expect any concrete details anytime soon.
