Video game publisher Electronic Arts has made public the first official image taken from a game of its upcoming sporting simulation title FIFA 12, showing what its new game engine can do when it comes to player detail, motion and lightning.

The screenshot that was released shows Kaka during a run and there's quite a lot of attention to detail clear on the equipment of the player and on the way he seems to move on the pitch.

It's not clear why EA Sports decided to use Kaka, a good players that has been benched at Real Madrid for quite a bit of time, instead of releasing an image of one of the Champions League superstars that are playing this week, like Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi.

The details of the screenshot also reveal that it was taken on the PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony, which makes the quality even more impressive.

FIFA was originally introduced back in 1993 by Electronic Arts and has since then evolved quite a lot, both on the gameplay front and when it comes to looks.

EA Sports is in charge of development, with the Canadian studio doing the bulk of the work, and has sought to make the game as close as possible to the on-the-pitch experience of the players while also keeping it quick and fun.

FIFA 11 has managed to perform better than its main rival, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 from Konami, and EA Sports has even bigger expectations about this years installment.

FIFA 12 is expected to arrive on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, the PC, the PSP and the Nintendo 3DS late in September or early in October.

There are also rumors that a version of FIFA 12 will be one of the launch titles for the new PlayStation Portable 2, aka the NPG, from Sony.
