The use of social networking sites on mobile phones around the world seems to be on the rise, as Facebook Mobile has just announced that it has more than 65 million mobile users connecting to its site. The new milestone seems to have been reached quite fast, considering the fact that only eight months ago the site claimed a number of 20 million mobile users.

What Facebook Mobile offers its users is the possibility to stay connected to their friends at all time, even when they are not in front of a desktop computer. Facebook seems to be more than proud of its achievement, and announced that it aimed at making its service available on some of the most recent mobile phones, as well as on the latest mobile operating systems launched on the market.

There are two mobile websites available for handset users around the world, namely m.facebook.com and x.facebook.com. The former is meant to work on any mobile browser available today on devices around the world, while the latter has been optimized for use on touchscreen phones that run under Android, as well as for those coming from Palm, Apple and Nokia. The sites are available in over 60 languages, and offer users the possibility to update statuses, browse News Feed and friends’ Profiles, as well as to comment stories.

The service offers additional features to its users, including Facebook SMS, which enables users to send and receive messages via SMS and which is available in 25 countries with 52 operators and can be used on almost all mobile phones. A series of applications aimed at different handsets are also available, such as Facebook for Blackberry, Facebook for iPhone and Facebook for Nokia. An application for Windows Mobile-powered phones is also available. Facebook has also announced that its users have now the opportunity to view Facebook Connect on a series of mobile sites and applications the same way they would view it on the web.
