Call them laptops, mobile servers or whatever you like, but Eurocom's Panther systems are certainly some of the most outrageous systems available out there, the Canadian system builder announcing their high-performance notebook PCs can now be equipped with six-core Intel Xeon X5690 processors.

For those of you that aren't up to speed with the CPU world, the Xeon X5690 is actually a desktop processors destined to be used in servers and high-performance workstations featuring six cores as well as Intel's own HyperThreading technology and a 3.46GHz stock clock (3.60 GHz with Turbo Boost).

More impressive then its feature list is only its whopping 139W TDP that makes me wonder how does Eurocom manage to cool this giant in the confined space that it has at its disposal (compared to a desktop computer that is, since the Panther is actually a behemoth of a notebook).

This new Xeon processor adds to quite an impressive feature list (one that can surely put your computer to shame), the D900F Panther and Panther 2.0 systems that are available with the X5690 also coming with up to 24GB or DDR3 triple-channel memory, up to 3.25TB storage space thanks to 4 physical drives that can be configured in RAID 0/1/5/10 and 17.3-inch Full HD displays.

Graphics wise, consumers can choose from a wide variety of video cards ranging from GeForce GTX 480M, GTX 460M or GTX 470M to professional grade Quadro FX 3800M or FX 5000M boards.

The Panther 2.0 can also support SLI configurations while the D900F Panther can be configured with ATI Radeon Mobility HD5870 graphics.

And if you think what can you actually use this for, Eurocom says they were designed for “a wide range of infrastructure, cloud, high-density and high performance mobile computing applications,” “software and/or database developers, training centers, military personnel, emergency relief organizations and service organizations who must frequently travel, yet need access to powerful computing,” being the core target for its mobile servers.

Price wise, this things will surely make you look deep into your pockets, a Panther 2.0 system configured with a Xeon X5690 processor starting at $4644 US while the D900F Panther featuring the same Intel CPU will set you back a full $4775 US.
