Publisher Square Enix has announced that it will be releasing an Augmented Edition of its upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which is for all intents and purposes the equivalent of the Special Edition which other titles get.

The Augmented Edition will allow players to get access to:

- the new Deus Ex game itself; - a behind-the-scenes DVD which shows how the video game has been created; - a motion graphic novel based on the game universe - a 40 page physical graphic novel.

Publisher Square Enix has also announced two official pre-order programs for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Those gamers who pick up the game at GameStop before it is officially launched will get access to a new playable mission which involved one of the characters seen in the original Deus Ex game (let's hope it will be Gunther and his head mounted cannon) and three new weapons.

Gamers who get the game at any other outlet will get access to two weapons: the Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun, which will help with close quarter engagement, and the Longsword Whisperhead Extreme Range Sniper Rifle, allowing the player to take out dangerous enemies from afar.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is actually a prequel and takes place in 2027, a full quarter century before the events of the original game in the series.

The narrative will be built around the same template, with conspiracy theories used as a basis to create a story that deals with deeper questions about humanity and progress.

Because the game is set before Deus Ex and its nano augmentations, gamers will have to deal with fully mechanical ones, which will modify the aspect of the main characters and will change the way the world reacts to them.

The game is developed by Eidos Montreal and will be released on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC in the first few months of 2011.
