Victoria Beckham has long crossed over from the music world to fashion, but it’s just now, with her third frock collection being presented at the New York Fashion Week, that she can truly be considered a bona fide designer. With it, the star has managed both to keep the personal note of the line and to integrate it in the trends, a thing that was too little obvious in the previous two collections, fashion critics say.

Posh presented her third collection in New York and has been reaping praises for it ever since. The line is bold and, at the same time, true to her personality as a designer, comprising items that rely heavily on severe cuts and tailoring, as well as unforgiving designs. However, Victoria has also managed to make her creations more accessible by injecting in them more color and, with some of them, cuts that are outside her comfort zone, yet that still look impressive, critics say.

Mrs. Beckham herself admits that her target customers are women just like her. For one, the designs continue to be just as unforgiving as those in the previous two collections, with cuts that only look good on women just like her – meaning, weighing about 47 kg and relatively tall. Then, there’s the price of each item, with some of them even going as high up as £3,900 a pop. What this means is that Victoria designs frocks only for the thin and very rich. As noted above, only women like her.

Not that this will stall sales in any way: as Victoria herself said at the launch, ladies were literally making her creations fly off the shelves. “I know I used to be in a pop group and I’m married to a footballer – a very lovely footballer. But I’m grateful that people are prepared to leave their preconceptions at the door and let the dresses speak for themselves. The sell-through has been amazing.” Mrs. Beckham further said.

“I try on everything. I make the dresses for me.” Victoria also said at the launch. In all fairness, she does conceive the creations with her own body in mind and, moreover, even steps out in her own creations, having long ditched favorite designers to bring more media attention to her own collection. Her latest, though, is the one that truly stands out from the crowd, critics agree. To see all the creations in it, please refer here.
