Dell Streak, the 5-inch tablet PC the computer maker brought to shelves not too long ago in the United States, has just got on an unofficial Froyo build available for it, for all those who purchased the solution and would like to upgrade its Android 1.6 OS to a newer flavor. Dell Streak users in the United States did not have the possibility to get a new software version on their devices until now, although Dell promised an Android 2.2 update for them in the near future, skipping the Android 2.1 OS that arrived on Streak overseas.

However, in an unofficial manner, the Dell Streak can be updated to the latest version of Android, even if the process is risky and involves the rooting of the device.

The ROM upgrade for Streak comes from a MoDaCo forum member, who says that most of the features are still working after the upgrade was performed, even if the available solution is in a beta version.

Of course, there are some issues that users should be aware of when it comes to pairing Android 2.2 and Dell Streak, including some random reboots, or problems with 3G connectivity after turning off Wi-Fi.

However, all other functionalities the device comes with are operational, and those who will install the solution on their Streak units should enjoy a pretty appealing experience.

Those interested in trying out the unofficial Android 2.2 update for the tablet PC should head over to this forum thread on MoDaCo to learn more on the matter.

As stated above, the process of installing this OS update on Streak is a risky one, and those who are not familiar with the process should wait for the official update to arrive.

In case there are some willing to go for the unofficial build, they should keep in mind that they are doing this at their own risk, and that they would be the only ones responsible if things do not turn out the way they should.

Installing such ROMs would void the warranty of the product, and can brick the device in case the process is not performed as it should be.
