T-Mobile customers who own a Dell Streak 7 tablet PC can now have their devices unlocked to support AT&T's HSPA+ network as well, in addition to the support for T-Mobile's airwaves. The tablet PC, made official in early 2011 during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, runs under Google's Android operating system.

It was released at T-Mobile as the first tablet to include support for the carrier's HSPA+ network, and should be accompanied soon by another such device, the T-Mobile G-Slate.

As one might have expected, the tablet PC arrived at T-Mobile locked on the carrier's network, yet it seems that it would sport support for AT&T's airwaves as well.

As soon as the T-Mobile USA carrier lock removed, the device would offer 1700/2100MHz (AWS) and 850/1900MHz connectivity capabilities, so that users can enjoy its features both on T-Mobile and AT&T's networks.

Having the tablet PC available with support for both the T-Mobile and AT&T network would make sense when taking into consideration the recently announced merger between the two.

However, the unlock is not an official one, nor is it free. It would cost you $49 at UnlockStreak (the company who makes the software).

What should be noted here is that, in order to have their devices unlocked, Dell Streak 7 users would have to send via email a series of details on their devices, including the IMEI, since the code is based on it.

The unlock code would be received in 1 -3 days. As soon as it was received, users can insert the SIM card from the other wireless carrier and benefit from expanded connectivity on their devices.

It's uncertain whether the tablet PC was meant from the start to offer support for both wireless networks or not, but, since this is an unofficial unlocking solution we do not encourage Dell Streak 7 owners to take advantage of it. Read more on the matter here.
