Over the last few years, Corsair has diversified its product portfolio to include a lot more than computer memory modules, the Freemont, California-based company preparing to launch a new line of gaming speakers in early 2011, the first product to make its appearance being the 2.1 channel SP2500.

Although specialized in computer memory and power supply units, Corsair is no stranger to the audio scene as the company has previously released the gaming orientated HS-1 headset that featured a closed-ear design, 50mm drivers, a wired remote as well as Dolby Surround sound and USB connectivity.

Although it didn't manage to blow reviewers away with its sound quality, the HS-1 received some positive appreciations, as many said it can deliver good sound quality while remaining extremely comfortable for prolonged periods of time, making it a pretty god start for Corsair's audio solutions.

Getting back to the SP2500, Hardware Canucks reports that the SP2500 can deliver 232W RMS of continuous power thanks to six class D amplifiers, the set pairing two bi-amplified satellites with 3-inch drivers and 1-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters , along with an 8-inch subwoofer in a fourth-order bandpass enclosure.

In addition, a wired remote control that features a 1.8-inch TFT-LCD color status display is also bundled together with the set.

Hardware Canucks also claims that the remote carries a multi-lingual user interface.

Apparently, some Asian stores as well as a couple of US-based retailers already have this system in stock, ready for customers to place their orders.

Officially, the SP2500 2.1 channel speaker set is scheduled to be released during CES 2011, retail price being set at a rather hefty $259.99 USD.

This makes them just as expensive as some Klipsch or Bose 2.1 speaker system, so I hope, for Corsair's sake, that the SP2500 2.1 boasts an audio quality fitting of its price tag.
