Things have evolved in the mobile world and if a guy would have invented some sort of time machine back in the 90s and would have arrived in our time, I'd say he would get knocked down off its feet after seeing what the cellphone manufacturers have launched in the last two years.

On the other side of the mobile phone accessories, the things are moving almost as fast and the companies that manufacture such devices are trying to keep a steady pace to go along with what is happening on the market at the moment.

One such company is Agere Systems Inc. which has come up with a new and ingenious solution to allow the mobile phone users to store their multimedia content on a fashionable and smart device branded as the BluOnyx.

The BluOnyx has the size of a credit card with a thickness just a little over a Motorola RAZR's and, the best thing about it, it is totally independent of your personal computer. Being a self-centered solution that doesn't need any other device so it can work, it will allow the users to move content from and to their cellphone, camera, or PC through a Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or USB connection or even using an SD card as an intermediary source of data transport.

What will you be able to do with it once you buy it and what makes it such an amazing gadget-like device? The future owners will have the possibility to back-up their contacts, pictures, emails or music from the cellphone and with just a few clicks, they will restore them to the same handset or onto a new phone in case of cell phone loss or if they want to upgrade their current mobile phone.

They will also be able to transfer some or all contents from the phone to somebody else's handset using the BluOnyx. Other features will let you back-up your business or personal files from your computer or even capture the state of the game you're playing on your PC and continue from that point on at one of your friends' house.

Another imaginable scenario would be when you and your friends are sitting down for a coffee or just having a talk and the BluOnyx broadcasts the same or different content to your cellphones, sending audio to some of you, streaming video to others and sending files to another person.

It can also be used by the YouTube or Blog addicts to snap pictures or video clips and send them to a website of their choice using a Wi-Fi spot and the BluOnyx with no PC requirements whatsoever.

Or, if you are more of a traveling sort of person, what would you think about having a BluOnyx in your car and make it deliver music content to your handset and stream video clips to your friends' in the back seats? And, if you want to really get creative why not connect it to your car's Bluetooth connection and use it as a jukebox or as a map storage system for the GPS system?

If you are finally convinced to get yourself one of the BluOnyx devices, you should know it comes in versions with storage spaces ranging from 1 GB to 40 GB, it doesn't have any type of screen so you will control it using your cellphone and you can also use it as a broadband router for the devices that don't have built-in broadband capabilities, such as mobile phones and PDAs.

The color range covers almost anything you would ever want, from black to pink, and the prices range from 50 ? to 130 ?, depending on the storage capacity you want it to have.
