SK Telecom and Research In Motion just made official the launch of the first touch-screen BlackBerry smartphone, BlackBerry Storm2, in South Korea. The BlackBerry Storm2 comes with the wide range of Blackberry communications services, but also with access to BlackBerry App World.

Blackberry Storm2 sees a widespread localization and is now reaching South Korean customers, who are now able to choose from more Blackberry devices. While this is the first touch-screen RIM smartphone that comes in the country, fans of the Canadian company had access to terminals like Blackberry 9700 and 9000.

The newly arrived Storm2 features: 3.25-inch capacitive touch-screen (360x480 pixels resolution), SurePress technology, 3.2 MP camera with variable zoom, autofocus, flash and video recording, 256 MB of Flash memory, 2 GB of on-board memory storage, microSD/SDHD memory card slot (up to 16 GB/32GB), 3.5 mm stereo headset jack and dedicated volume controls.

In terms of connectivity the smartphone comes with global connectivity support: UMTS/HSPA (2100Mhz), quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM, and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) networks, as well as Bluetooth with support for hands-free headsets, stereo headsets, car kits and other Bluetooth peripherals.

Other key features of the handset include: Background noise suppression technology, loud distortion-free speakerphone and face detection (proximity sensor) that prevents accidental clicks and blanks the screen while the user is on the phone; Media player for videos, pictures and music, and BlackBerry Media Sync for easily syncing photos as well as iTunes and Windows Media Player music with the smartphone; BlackBerry Desktop Manager for both PCs and Macs to enable synching data.

The BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone is expected to ship out from the selected SK Telecom authorized retail stores in early August. The South-Korean carrier hasn't put a price on the device yet, but it will probably show up on its official website soon, together with the available plan offerings.
