Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is rumored to plan the launch on the market of a new iteration of its popular BlackBerry Storm touchscreen-enabled smartphone. Following last year's release of Storm 2, a device meant mainly to fix the issues the first Storm arrived on the market with, the upcoming Storm 3 device should come with impressive enhancements, both over its predecessor, as well as over competitive solutions.

Among the most impressive rumored features of the upcoming mobile phone, we can count a 1GHz applications processor, which should be complemented by 1GB of flash memory. Moreover, it seems that Research In Motion might have plans to move to the next-generation wireless standards with upcoming models, Storm 3 included, and that the device would arrive on the market with LTE capabilities. In other words, there are great chances that this would be among the first LTE-enabled devices that would arrive on Verizon’s upgraded network.

Other possible specifications of the upcoming device (only rumored at the moment) would include: - 8GB internal memory - Lots of personalization and the ability to run widgets - The screen will be something we haven’t seen yet. It could be a Synaptics touchscreen that would make for a much “lighter” touch experience - Tested in a very private beta to prevent leaks - Currently resembles the Storm2, but only as a disguise

All in all, there are great chances that Research In Motion might be among the first companies to release 4G-capable mobile phones. The first such device was launched several weeks ago at Sprint in the US, the HTC EVO 4G, and should be followed by another Sprint-bound handset, this time coming from Samsung. According to rumors, the upcoming device might come with a new operating system on board, one that would differ from the already announced OS 6. Details on this are scarce at the moment, though more info should emerge in the near future, so stay tuned for more on this.
