Movistar and Research In Motion (RIM) announced recently the launch of BlackBerry Pearl 8120 smartphone in Latin America. The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 smartphone from Movistar features an ultra-sleek design, measuring only 107 mm x 55 mm x 14 mm and weighing approximately 91g, and is available in two striking colors: blue (currently available in Latin America only from Movistar) and titanium.

The new small and stylish smartphone offers a variety of enhancements including built-in Wi-Fi, a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, an improved visual interface, various hardware refinements and an externally accessible microSD / SDHC memory card slot for storage of music, videos and pictures. The 2 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom and enhanced flash supports video capture in two resolutions: 240 x 180 or 176 x 144 for sharing via MMS. The smartphone also supports stereo Bluetooth (A2DP / AVRCP) and includes a 3.5 mm stereo jack that allows a user to connect their favorite headset or speakers for an improved multimedia experience.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 is supported on the BlackBerry Internet Service, which features the popular BlackBerry push email architecture that automatically delivers email messages to the user. BlackBerry Internet Service customers can manage up to 10 email accounts, including the most popular ISP email accounts such as Terra, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and others, in addition to receiving one new and dedicated email address that is associated solely to the smartphone.

The stylish smartphone brings together email, voice, web browsing, multimedia, texting, instant messaging, and other applications in an ultra-sleek design. The device complements the present range of BlackBerry smartphones offered to Movistar clientele and will be available to Movistar clients in Chile beginning this week.

The smartphone is expected to be available from Movistar in other Latin American countries in the coming weeks.
