The NPD Group has revealed its sales figures for the United States market for the month of November last week, showing that Call of Duty: Black Ops was, as expected, the best selling video game of the 30-day period and that the Xbox 360 from Microsoft managed to sell better than the PlayStation 3 from Sony.

Further information from the company shows that the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops has managed to sell 4.9 million units while the PS3 version has also moved 3.1 millions.

The PC, Nintendo Wii and DS version of the first person shooter have sold 400,000 copies, but these figures do not include the Steam-based sales and those from other digital distribution services, which the NPD Group does not track.

It's interesting to note that the split between the two main console versions of the new Call of Duty is about 60 to 40 in favor of the Xbox 360 edition.

The split last year was bigger towards the Microsoft home console despite the fact that it did not sell as well for the month as this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has been developed by Treyarch and initial reports from analysts suggested that the video game could sell better than Modern Warfare 2, which was the best sold title of last year.

The single player element of Black Ops is better developed than that of Modern Warfare 2, with a better grounding in history and more internal coherence while the multiplayer seems better balanced than in the previous title.

Activision has already confirmed that it plans to deliver a new Call of Duty game in 2011, although it has not said exactly who will develop it.

There are rumors that Sledgehammer Games is working on a third person Call of Duty title that could also be unveiled next year and will be launched in 2012.
