Call of Duty: Black Ops will add quite a lot of interesting things to the highly popular first person shooter franchise, and among them we will have a much more emotional story, at least according to Treyarch director Dave Anthone.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to reach new sales records, after already beating the previous title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, in terms of pre-orders.

With the addition of things like a zombie co-operative multiplayer mode, dedicated servers on the PC and a really impressive single-player campaign, the title developed by Treyarch might even eclipse the Modern Warfare games developed by Infinity Ward.

Now, according to Dave Anthony, Black Ops will also set a new standard for the franchise in terms of the story, as the title will have a very emotional one surrounding lead protagonist Alex Mason.

The opening scene of Black Ops will portray Mason being tortured for information, and will immediately make players relate and care about the hero, at least according to Anthony.

"It was a very deliberate choice, we want the player to immediately be able to relate to him," Anthony explained.

"The first scene is very tense for the character. We thought that if the player himself was feeling what the character was going through right at the start of the game, it would really create a connection with the character."

According to the Treyarch executive, Mason will be one of the most developed characters ever to appear in a Call of Duty game, and that his relationships with different characters will constantly shift throughout the story of the game.

"The emotional focus that we've given Mason is more than we've ever done before for a character in a 'Call of Duty' game," he said.

"As you go through the story, you will see how Mason's relationships with the other characters in the game change as you go back and forth from the interrogation room. You will actually realize how it all comes together."

Call of Duty: Black Ops will arrive on November 9 for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
