Problems arise in terms of the movie's rating and budget

It seems that the BioShock movie that’s been quite a long time in pre-production has hit another major snag, as Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who was set to direct the film, has quit the project because of budget problems.

BioShock impressed millions of gamers from all around the world back in 2007, when it was released by 2K Games after being made by its Irrational Games studio.

Since then, a sequel was released, in the form of BioShock 2, and a new title, BioShock Infinite, is set to appear this October.

For quite some time, a movie project entered development but plenty of problems have kept it from actually being made.

While famous Hollywood producer and director Gore Verbinski was set to helm the project, he switched places with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo some time ago.

Now, according to IndieWire, Fresnadillo has also quit the project, saying that there’s currently a problem between the studio and the video game company behind BioShock.

"To be honest, by now, I'm completely out of that, and developing other stuff," Fresnadillo said. "Right now it's on hold. The studio and the videogame company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating."

These problems are similar to the ones encountered by Verbinski a few years ago, as he wanted a harsh R rating for the movie and quite a lot of money in order to recreate the underwater world of Rapture, in which the game takes place.

The creator of the series, Ken Levine, has said on multiple occasions that a film isn’t something completely necessary and it seems that the movie-going public won’t be able to experience the franchise anytime soon due to these problems.
