Irrational Games, the studio behind the very popular BioShock game, has revealed that it’s certainly feeling pressure with its upcoming BioShock Infinite title, due to the original’s huge success.

The original BioShock delighted millions of gamers from all over the world with its brilliant story and top-notch premise. The sequel, developed by 2K Marin, improved on quite a few areas but ultimately failed to reach the success of its predecessor.

Now, the team at Irrational Games is putting the finishing touches on BioShock Infinite that aims at telling a brand new story, separate from the last two games, which will recreate some of the wonder felt by players when going through the first title.

According to Irrational’s Director of Product Development, Tim Gerritsen, there’s certainly a lot of pressure on the studio’s shoulder to live up to BioShock’s success.

"BioShock was one of the best-received [and best] critically reviewed games of the past decade. We definitely feel the pressure of that," he admitted to OPM UK, via CVG. "For every success we have, it simply opens up bigger challenges and bigger expectations. We live day to day hoping that we will deliver, and pushing ourselves to do so."

Gerritsen even admits that every time glimpses of the game are shown to the public, he gets really anxious, but ultimately hopes that Infinite will deliver a great experience worthy of the BioShock name.

"Every time we show anything to the public, we're on pins and needles over how it will be received, because we're that invested into making BioShock Infinite carry the same weight as the original. We feel confident that we have a skilled team and the ability to make that happen.”

We’ve seen and heard quite a lot about BioShock Infinite, which hopes to impress once again through an original narrative that deals with lots of social issues, not to mention gameplay that will see players move through a floating city called Columbia.

BioShock Infinite is set to appear later this year on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
