The video game publisher Konami Digital Entertainment and the movie studio Sony Pictures have announced that they are entering into a partnership to create a video game also named Battle: Los Angeles, designed to allow gamers to experience the cataclysmic events of the movie in a more interactive way.

Konami says that the game will be delivered on the PlayStation Network from Sony, the Xbox Live service from Microsoft and the PC through the Steam digital distribution service although it has not mentioned a specific launch date.

Battle: Los Angeles will arrive on March 11 in its movie form.

Players will take on the role of Lee Imlay, a corporal in the United States Army, as he fights in Los Angeles alongside the characters from the film and tries to discern who the attackers are and what are they trying to accomplish.

Development on the Battle: Los Angeles video game will be handled by Saber Interactive, a team that was recently rumored to also be working on a remake of the original Halo video game that some expect to see launched in late 2011.

It's not clear why Sony is not developing and publishing the game based on the movie.

Careen Yapp, a vice president at Konami, has stated, “Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. jumped at the opportunity to team up with Columbia Pictures and publish the Battle: Los Angeles video game. We love the movie and it was a great experience working with Saber - there were some great ideas about how to expand the story into a game. It's a great chance for gamers and moviegoers to play out the world of the film.”

Mark Caplan, a vice president at Sony Pictures, added, “Battle: Los Angeles is a tremendously thrilling game and a perfect complement to our film. Saber and Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. have creatively entered the world of the film and used it as a canvas for a rich, exciting game.”
