Batman: Arkham City, the next chapter in Rocksteady's new franchise, won't feature any playable vehicles, meaning that players won't roll around Arkham City in machines like the Batmobile, the Batboat or Batplane.

This goes against previous rumors that Arkham City, a title that will have a larger world map than Arkham Asylum, will see Batman use some of the many vehicles he had in comics, movies or animated series.

This was also hinted by the fact that vehicles like the Batmobile or Batplane were briefly featured in the original Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Sadly, Rocksteady, the developer of the franchise, has just flat out denied those rumors, saying that there won't be any vehicle sections in the upcoming title.

"There aren't any playable vehicles in the game," said the studio's founder Sefton Hill.

"What we've really focused on is Batman himself. We see him as the ultimate vehicle."

Batman: Arkham Asylum appeared back in 2008, and impressed a lot of people with its polished gameplay, great graphics and how it implemented the abilities of The Dark Knight into a video game, something that still eludes many studios working on games based on comic books.

Arkham City will continue the story of the Caped Crusader, and see him fight against some of the his worse enemies in, obviously, Arkham City, a larger area than the previous asylum.

We already know that Rocksteady will implement an overhauled detective mode in Arkham City, which won't be as intrusive as the one in the first game, and allow players to continue to enjoy the game's great graphics without having them rendered in other colors.

Besides Batman and some of his most notorious enemies, including the Joker or Two-Face, Arkham City will also feature characters like Catwoman or Talia al Ghul.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is set to be launched October 3, 2011, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
