Batman: Arkham City, the sequel to the popular Arkham Asylum title that was launched last year, will feature a lot of changes in order to make it more immersive but keep the things that helped the first title become so popular with fans of the Dark Knight.

We've already heard about the open world and the linear story that the new game will have, but now, the game's director, Sefton Hill, has revealed a few details about the new Detective Mode that will be present.

In the first game, the Detective Mode was one of the most useful things in Batman's arsenal, but it was a bit too useful sometimes, and really took players out of the whole Batman experience.

Now, things will change a bit, and the detective mode will allow the superhero to find informants among regular thugs, and then persuade him to give up details about Batman's Arch rival, the Riddler.

"As with nearly every area of the game we're enhancing it. One example is the criminal database coupled with the new interrogation mechanic," he revealed.

"The Riddler continues to taunt the Dark Knight with mind-bending puzzles and exploration challenges, but the location of his biggest secrets are known only to him and people he's told. Rather than unlocking their locations using maps, Batman will be able to scan a gang of thugs to find a potential informant."

After finding him, the game will require to "persuade" him by beating up his fellow gang members using the intuitive FreeFlow combat system, as seen in the first Arkham Asylum.

"This is the guy you need to question, but first you'll have to take down all the other gang members while sparing the one you want. That can be tough when Batman's in a seamless FreeFlow combo chain" said Hill.

Batman: Arkham City is complete, according to its development studio, Rocksteady, and the whole experience will now be polished and optimized until it will be launched at the end of 2011 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
